Corporate Governance 2023 Sustainability Highlights

  • As Taiwan’s only chemical member in S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for 4 consecutive years (from 2021 to 2024), we scored 97 in the global industrial 100-point (PR) in 2023.
  • In 2023, the Ministry of Economic Affairs passed a subsidy program for the development of low-carbon process nylon composites, continuing to implement the transformation of green petrochemicals.

  • After 6 years of assessment by the International Carbon Disclosure Project, we received management B ratings for climate change, supply chain engagement, and water safety in 2023.
  • We won 3 awards at the 2023 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA): Top 100 Most Prestigious Sustainability Awards-Model Enterprise, Gold Class Award in the Traditional Manufacturing Sector, and Climate Leadership Award.
  • The Core Pacific Plaza of our subsidiary Core Pacific Development Corporation received 5 stars for Best Mixed Use Development and Best Commercial High Rise Development from the International Property Awards.

    CPDC is also Taiwan’s only winner with the highest 5-star GRESB rating under the Asia Total Property Development category for 2 years with its Core Pacific Plaza.

Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Protection 2023 Sustainability  Highlights

  • Our Taipei Office as well as Toufen, Douliou, Dashe, and Hsiaokang Plants (effective until the end of 2026) were all granted with the Badge of Accredited Healthy Workplace by the Health Promotion Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2023.
  • By 2023, the installation of 3,119kW solar renewable energy in various plants will continue to pass ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 46001 certifications. The main production plants will also obtain ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 new version verifications, achieving product and process stability standardization and internationalization.

  • In 2023, an investment of 86,468 million yuan was made, resulting in a total of 17 energy-saving and carbon reduction measures. The energy-saving effect reached 1,844.88 KLOE per year, with a carbon reduction of approximately 5050.2 metric tons of CO2e per year, equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of 13 Daan Forest Parks. The effectiveness includes "improvement in equipment efficiency, optimization, and carbon reduction."
  • The Green Building Certification of the Ministry of the Interior: Diamond for Dashe Plant’s new control room and office buildings, bronze for Hsiaokang Plant Administration Building, silver and bronze for Toufen Plant’s Nylon Chips workshop and administration building, respectively.
  • Hsiaokang Plant responded to the 2023 World Occupational Safety and Health Day and collaborated with Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor on the 2022 National Workplace Safety and Health Week Series Implementation Plan.
  • Toufen Plant won the 2023 Regional Joint Defense Organization Excellence Award from the Ministry of Environment for outstanding preventive management and contingency drills of toxic chemicals alongside the Water Conservation Excellence Award from the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs. Additionally, it was recognized for Miaoli County Air Pollution Autonomous Reduction from the local Environmental Protection Bureau. It also actively maintained the Dongxing Wetland Park by the Zhonggang River.
  • Both Dashe and Xiaogang Plants 2 won the 2023 Outstanding Contribution Award from the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government for their efforts in cleaning the local Air Quality Purification Zone.
  • In 2023, Dashe Plant was recognized for its participation in the Digital Transformation Co-Creation Project of the Park Administration and Institute for Information Industry of the Ministry of Economic Affairs with a POC Certification.

     

Social Engagement 2023 Sustainability Highlights

Supporting green procurement and establishing sustainable curcularity

In 2023, it was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Environmental Protection Bureaus of the Taipei City and Kaohsiung City governments for its outstanding performance in promoting green consumption and green procurement in 2022. The amount of green procurement exceeded NT$10 million. Through green procurement, it supports local revitalization, nurtures local small farmers, establishes a virtuous cycle mechanism, and donates 10% of the procurement amount per box to the Huashan Foundation's "Donate New Year's Dishes to Help the Elderly" charity event.

Support policy to implement a sustainable culture: The Company held a cultural exhibition “My Family’s Cross-Strait Stories”

Organizing the "Cross-Strait Stories of My Home" cultural exhibition, held in Taichung from 7/5 to 9/20. With over 20,000 visitors, Mayor Lu Shiow-yen led the city government team to visit the exhibition. During the exhibition, 51 groups conducted guided tours and provided transportation subsidies for surrounding neighborhoods and schools, aiming to promote cultural sustainability and preserve historical memories.

 

Implementing circular economy, protecting the ocean and integrating the corporate spirit

Breaking away from the linear economy of the petrochemical industry, it took two years to develop and design, to recycle old fishing nets, and to produce the "sea waste recycled fishing net small bags”, and actively cooperated with AUO sustainable stores and public and private sectors, associations, social enterprises."

Caring for the elderly and children and fulfilling social responsibilities

Organize the "Wanhua Children's Blessing Post-it Activity - You Make a Wish, I Make it Come True", where all colleagues adopt handwritten wish cards from children at the Children's Service Center. On Christmas Day, the leader personally presents and encourages each child with words of encouragement. Also, donate ten boxes of gifts to the Sai Kung Foundation for them to hold seminars on activities for the elderly, providing beneficial information to benefit the elderly.


Organizing industry-academia exchanges to cultivate talents

Support the "Petrochemical Special Class Talent Cultivation Program" and provide scholarships to encourage and open up universities to visit factory areas, emphasizing the importance of industry-academia collaboration. For example, long-term support for the Petrochemical Special Class at Jenwu High School. When students face decisions about further education or employment, we aim to inspire them with the vision of "ESG sustainability for the common good, creating a sustainable future for the workplace" as we transition towards green petrochemicals.
