CPDC marks an ESG milestone by achieving a place in S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2021

China Petrochemical Development Corporation (CPDC, 1314) is honored to be included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2021 published on February 8. 2021. With a score of 77 in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), CPDC ranks 12th in the chemical industry worldwide with a percentile rank of 90 (top 10%). CPDC was selected for the first time as a member of S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook. CPDC is the only chemical company in Taiwan to be included in the Sustainability Yearbook, and was also awarded an “Industry Mover” distinction in the global chemical industry, in acknowledgement of its strongest year on year score improvement in the industry.

This marks the 2nd year that CPDC took the initiative to participate in the assessment to disclose ESG (environmental, social, governance) performance of the Company, as part of our active communication and outreach effort, and it is honored to be recognized by this global organization.

In 2013, CPDC formally established its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee. The Company published its first CSR report in accordance with the GRI guidelines and verified by a third party in August 2014. CPDC leads others in the petrochemical industry and continues to self-evaluate and make improvements in ESG disclosures. In addition to the S&P Global CSA, CPDC actively participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) assessment to keep abreast of the latest international trends and enhance its corporate sustainability.

For many years, CPDC has actively promoted and carried out energy-conservation and carbon-reduction projects to mitigate environmental impacts. In order to implement the company's sustainable development goals, the Company introduces a “sustainable performance KPI” system starting in 2021. The President will demonstrate and promote the system to all departments of the company to improve the linkage of departmental business and sustainability. CPDC also actively engages in the research and development of green products such as biodegradable products and eco-friendly and renewable materials. In terms of the land development business, special emphasis is placed on issues such as green buildings and environmental greening in response to the United Nations’ goals regarding sustainable cities. CPDC engages in social participation and charitable giving through collaboration with social enterprises, non-governmental and non-profit organizations (NGOs, NPOs) and employees’ initiatives, with the aim of leveraging greater strength to contribute care and love as social citizens.

“In the future, we will continue to deepen the links between its business strategies and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and strengthen communications with stakeholders, thereby creating a win-win situation where the environment, society and economy can coexist and prosper together,” CPDC said.
